DIY Tutorial: Wood Bead Keychain

I recently created bead animals with my kids using pony beads and I thought this technique would look really neat with wood beads in a geometric design. Here’s a quick tutorial on how you can weave geometric keychains using wood beads and a single piece of yarn.

Materials:

Yarn

9 Wood Beads

Ring Keychain

2 Darning Needles

Scissors

Map out your design.

Cut a length of yarn. Thread one darning needle on either end. String one bead and pull to the middle of the yarn.

String two more beads on one needle, pull onto yarn.

Pull second needle through the other side of the beads.

Pull so two beads are snug on top of your first bead.

Continue in this manner to complete your diamond shape.

Pull final bead snug to complete diamond.

Work your strings back through your beadwork and tie security knots. These knots will be hidden within your beadwork.

Once secure, work your yarn back through your beads.

When finished, your yarn should exit your top bead on either side.

Tie a double knot to secure.

Secure your yarn to your keyring using a knot or larks head knot.

Work your yarn back through your beadwork and secure with knots.

Once secure, fasten off your yarn, cutting close to a bead so your yarn ends hide inside.

Now you can attach your keyring to your favorite tote bag handle and enjoy!
