DIY Idea: Granny Square Tote

I recently learned how to crochet a granny square and I love the quiet, meditative process. It doesn’t involve much thought or counting, you can kind of just let your hands do the work. We all need to shut our minds off sometimes and making granny squares is a great way to zen out.

I wanted to use some chunky yarn, so I used Quince and Co Puffin in four different colors and a cream cotton yarn for in between the colors. I intended on making this into a blanket or pillow. I placed one of the giant squares on a tote bag and I fell in love! You can stitch your giant granny squares to your tote bags as a fun design or leave the top side unstitched and use the granny square as a pocket (careful though, some smaller items may slip out!)

I wanted to share this DIY idea because granny squares are so fun to make, a great way to use up some yarn in your stash, and a beautiful way to display your fiber art. They would also make lovely handmade gift bags for the holidays!
