DIY Tutorial: Tote Bag Tassel

Tassels make an adorable adornment for any of our tote bags. Whether your totes are screen printed for bridal party bags or left blank for everyday use, adding a tassel to the handle creates a lovely, handmade touch.

Materials:

12mm String

1.5mm String

Ring Keychain

Macrame Brush

Scissors

Cut a length of 12mm string about 9″ long and loop it around your keyring.

Create a loop at the top of your tassel with your 1.5mm string.

Wrap your 1.5mm string around your tassel leaving the loop at the top and the tail out the bottom. This will create the neck of your tassel.

Finish wrapping with the string at the top of the neck.

Pull the end of your string through the loop.

Pull both ends to tighten.

The knot will now be behind the neck of your tassel.

Thread the top tail over part of the neck and through to the bottom. Make sure to go over a strand or two of the neck so you don’t pull your knot out. This will make it more secure.

Pull the top tail all the way through to the bottom.

Tie an additional knot for added security.

Pull both tails through the neck back to the top.

Fasten off.

Comb out the skirt of your tassel.

Tie a loose knot at the length you would like your skirt.

Cut the excess skirt off just above the loose string you tied for a clean edge of your tassel.

Clip your new tassel to your tote bag handle and you are ready to show off your adorable handmade accessory!
